1. First off, the motel is in a great neighborhood, with lots of opportunities for dining, shopping and people-watching, right outside your door.

7. It's easy to walk across the bridge to downtown, but the motel is in the wacky boho neighborhood of South Congress, with tons of good restaurants, food carts, and shopping nearby.

10. We had done a fair amount of research on fun and funky lodging along the way, and were very excited about our stop at the famous Austin Motel, a vintage property, located in the hip 'SoCo' (South Congress) neighborhood.
