1. Definitely plenty of street people, so this neighborhood may not be for the squeamish, but the Haight has great shops (esp clothes and shoes) intermingled with more colorful venues.

5. They all live in the park directly across the street from the hotel, making an evening stroll risky, unless you're armed (not socially acceptable in San Francisco).

7. This hotel is right across the street from the Golden Gate Park & 3 blocks from a light rail transit stop - so handy access to downtown or the Ferry Building (and from there access to Fisherman's Wharf).
