2. Definitely not luxury--in fact Banyan Drive in general is pretty run-down; it looks like it was probably a nice tourist area 30-40 years ago, and hasn't been updated since.

3. The way we see it, is when we're on vacation, we are there to spend our time and money exploring the area, not staying at the hotel.

4. The room is exceptionally quiet, any bar noise is at the other end of the hotel in the suites overlooking Banyan Drive not at the end overlooking the Hilo harbour and pool area.

So, I decided to call the property directly and after speaking to a reservations employee, she assurred me that the units had all been renovated within the last year (not so); the property was a safe place and security patrolled the area at night (to me, this is a scary place at night); parking was generally not a problem - there was a bar/nightclub downstairs and that it may affect parking in the evening (loud music and people arguing in the parking lot could be clearly heard and there was no onsite parking available).

7. Some real weird people hanging out in lobby and around the parking area, and I was scared to even go to the laundry, some questionables there too.

9. This bar crowd screams, curses, yells, breaks bottles, blows their horns, burns rubber (squealsl wheels), activate their car alarms (on purpose), drives recklessly over the curbs, sidewalks, grass areas, drinks openly in public, and causes utter chaosthe time during my short stay.
