The bath was 'manky' (local dilect here in the hills of Scotland), the shower was faulty, the heater was falling off the wall, the toilet hadn't been flushed or cleaned in what looked like weeks and for most of the night all we heard were a couple in the next room using the hotel for what it was most suited for.
