1. This is an excellent choice for the San Diego business traveler who does NOT want to stay in hotel circle--the drive into San Diego is not bad at all.

2. What is going on here is that the higher end hotels are feeling squeezed by the current bad times, and are trying to recover some of their declining profits after they've hooked you with a low room rate.
