It turned out that in the year since we booked, the Meridian had lost its hotel license and wasn't supposed to be leased, which explained the lack of any normal amenity such as keys, room service, a front desk or concierge, maintenance, Internet, cable or actual access to the place -- we had been promised the gate house for meetings, and poolside breakfast, both of which were denied because of the whole licensing issue.
