1. This area of the city borders on less than safe "tenderloin" district" & there was plenty of indication of unsafe street activity.

2. It is not far from downtown, but we found it better to walk a block north (where you can also catch a bus on several different routes) instead of walking south to Market Street due to the neighborhood (although we never felt unsafe).
