1. Once we had got our bearings - it was quite quick and easy to visit the attractions in San Diego or to go downtown or to the beach.

2. We went to both Delmar Beach and Torrey Pines State Beach - both highly recommended, very clean - the sea was quite rough and the waves big, so probably not idea for tiny children - but older kids would love it, and you could hire body boards in certain areas.
