I received a complimentary upgrade to a Queen Suite upon check-in.
So while it didn't work out for us - and having not seen any other rooms - it clearly suits plenty of others.

The bathroom is closet sized and the shower enclosure would be literally too small for anyone larger than ~180 lbs to bathe in comfortably.
Comfortable bed, Good bathroom, excellent shower and lot of little personal touches.

Despite the run-down rooms, the stains in the carpet, the non-air conditioned stale smell, the ancient bathroom fixtures, the badly designed bathroom, and the lack of a really clean bathroom, the most outstanding thing about this hotel is the service staff.
The bathroom is small.

Our room was TINY.
The room was extremely quiet, no noises were heard from other rooms or the outside.

Most of the rooms are at the back of the hotel with a view over the backs of other buildings, but we didn't mind, because we realised that if we'd had a view over Union Square it would have been too noisy.
Sadly, our room had zero view - but it was worth it for the peace.
