1. if you stood outside the entrance (say, waiting for a shuttle to the airport etc) the noise was really loud, every time a train goes through you really know about it.

3. I'd read reviews that said the El was loud when it passed, but our room was on the far side of the building from the tracks and we never heard the trains pass.
