1. If you're looking for a big white sand beach, the Kapa'a public beach is just a mile or two north and provides all the sand and surf you'll need in addition to life guards -- if you stay on the boardwalk I mentioned earlier and head north, you can't miss it.

9. There's an awesome paved public beach path perfect for jogging, walking, etc. in the mornings - you see some beautiful views as you go up and down the path for at least 4 miles or so.
